Christmas Eve Services Info

Dear Wonderful Choirs! All are "a-buzz" about your glorious singing in the concert (more comments about that in previous post below). The recording is being duplicated today and we are crossing our fingers that they'll be ready on Sunday. Here is info regarding Christmas Eve:

6:15 call time for Chamber Singers; 7:00 worship (48 minutes long); we wear robes & sing the following from the concert (1) Angels & Shepherds, (2) Tiny Child, (3) O Magnum Mysterium, (4) Joy to the World. If you're not robed by 6:15, get robe on during brief break as trumpet plays prelude. Color of stoles tba.

7:45 call time for Festival Choir; 8:30 pm worship (46 minutes long); once you arrive go directly and quietly to choir robe room and get robes on immediately so that we can have a 7:50pm downbeat to rehearse the following from the concert (1) Tiny Child, (2) O Magnum Mysterium, and (3) Joy to the World. Color of stoles tba. Michelle will be conducting the choir and the whole service, as I must direct the other four of five services that evening.

Prayers Requested: Lindsay, my 15-year-old daughter, is going in for surgery tomorrow at 2:30 (Antioch Kaiser)- her injury is far worse than we originally thought (2 breaks in the femur and broken kneecap). Due to some computer overuse a month ago, I'm nursing some swelling around my shoulder and wrist, aggrevated I'm sure by all that conducting and stress over my daughter. My family, and especially Lindsay, would appreciate your prayers. Continue to pray, also, Myrna, who is still recovering from her fall a couple weeks ago. Amidst all this distress, the beautful sounds of the choirs are surrounding me (I've been editing your recording!) and I wish to tell you what a blessing you all are to me. God bless you all!

Thank you all singers & ringers!

On behalf of the congregation - all the amazing comments from those who attended the concerts - thank you for your whole-hearted music making.

Festival Choir: We truly did sing this music at our very best collectively - as a choir, we were expressive, blended, tuned, shaped, balanced, and reflected solid performance practice, and sang up to tempo - all these aspects occured at a very impressive level. I believe the Festival Choir has never sounded better. I am very proud of the growth of this choir and am so thankful for your work. Our other goals were to draw people into these works of art, to uplift spirits, to create an air of transcendence, to make people aware of God's presence, and to help people enter into this Christmas Season with joy and beauty. We also sought to include younger voices in our midst, and I believe the high-schoolers in Festival Choir, and the Revelers contributed an invaluable componenet - how wonderful! You will be so very pleased with the recording of Sunday. We recorded Saturday through our "normal" system" - not usuable as balance is all ascrewed; Sunday was stronger on most pieces so that's great news. "O magnum" and "Joy to the World" is fantastic. As for Bach, the first mvt "Magnificat", "Omnes," "Fecit" & the last half of Gloria... "Sicut erat in principio" were the best we've done on these (much stronger than on Sat, which was already very good!)- truly wonderful! "Sicut locustus" is slightly out of sync at the very end, and one beat of "Gloria" is also out of sync, but otherwise these are really beautiful. Soloists - many thanks, especially to the two who made their debuts as counter-tenors!

Please, everyone, please take a moment to thank Sharon Francis, Jim Pearson, Krisin Bullock (ppt), Devin Crane (sound), Chris Bird (ran ppt), custodial staff (overtime in set-up needs), our section leaders, Jonathan, and Michelle for their tremendous help toward this event. Drop a note, email, or shake a hand - these folks are true and envaluable servants. Let them know your appreciation. Also thank our ushers (names in program), and the pastors, for their support!

Chamber - Sunday was a stronger performance on all three of our pieces - some magical moments, indeed!

Revelers - you'll be very happy with your work! Strong both days!

Jonathan & Michelle - your musical contributions are amazing. You shine in the recording, as does the concerto ensemble and the jazz trio!

Handbell Choir/Ruben - lovely, lovely work...you'll be so pleased!! Your offerings in this event really added a special flavor and drew people in. Bravo!

Recording to be editted today and tomorrow, and will be available Sunday! Please contribute a donation for each copy of the recording as we do not have budgetted funds for this.

FESTIVAL, CHAMBER, & REVELER'S CHOIR - see you Christmas Eve (Revelers at 5pm service, Chamber at 7pm, and Festival at 8:30pm)! More details soon...

CHAMBER - SEE YOU Sunday, 8:15 call, stay for the entire second service; we're doing both Festejo and Ave Maria (Ave will be sung during the offering)!

Blessings,

Julie
